    Brenton started his career with a reputable bespoke builder, where a high-quality skillset and passion for craftsmanship developed. He constantly looks for ways to improve his own skills, and systems and and processes in the business. Brenton has managed a range of high-end residential and commercial projects and became a sought-after expert in the field. He has project managed many high-end builds in Melbourne, including a $6M library and chapel refurbishment.

  • Scott Dowel

    Director / Estimator
    Registered Builder Victoria

    Scott has worked on award-winning residential and commercial construction projects since he was an apprentice almost 25 years ago. His experience includes over 10 years of project estimation, which complements his building and construction qualifications. He brings extensive construction experience to MDC and prides himself on quality, communication, and relationship-building with clients, consultants, and trades. Scott is proud of the increasing number of completed MDC team projects defining the South Gippsland and south-east Melbourne landscapes.

  • Dan Courtney

    Director / Project Manager
    Registered Builder Victoria

    Dan has a broad range of experience. He has led a team of project managers on bespoke projects from $750,000 to $8 million. Attention to detail and financial experience ensured projects were delivered on time and to budget, enabling rapid business growth. Skills learnt on the tools, and in management and compliance roles enable him to provide clients with excellent strategic advice on buildability and cost management. Dan is passionate about construction and enjoys seeing team members working their way up through the company.

  • Cindy McKnight

    Administration

    With over 12 years’ experience in real estate, Cindy brings strong organisational and client service skills to her role at MDC. As the first point of contact for many clients, she ensures a smooth and professional experience from the moment they walk through the door. Cindy handles everything from accounts and document management to reception and office coordination, supporting the entire team with a proactive, solutions-focused approach. There’s rarely a problem she can’t solve, and her ability to keep things running seamlessly behind the scenes is key to the success of every project. She enjoys being part of a collaborative team and supporting the success of each project behind the scenes.

  • Ashley Mclean

    Site Management

    With over 30 years in construction, Ashley is a Registered Builder and qualified Cabinet Maker and Carpenter. He brings a no-nonsense, precision-driven approach to every build. As Site Manager and leading chippy, he oversees timelines, quality, and team coordination, while mentoring apprentices and staying connected to the tools.

    Nicknamed "the millimeter man" for his meticulous detail, Ashley ensures each project reflects true craftsmanship and integrity. He thrives on delivering complex architectural visions and is respected for his direct work ethic and deep trade knowledge, making him a cornerstone of the MDC team and driving excellence on every site.

  • Bryn Hughes

    Site Management

    Bryn’s role at MDC is all about keeping projects running smoothly from the ground up. As Site Supervisor, he oversees daily operations, coordinates subcontractors and suppliers, manages timelines, and ensures safety and quality standards are always met. Known for his proactive approach and clear communication, Bryn keeps everyone from trades to project managers on the same page while quickly troubleshooting challenges.

    Starting out as a carpentry apprentice, Bryn worked his way from second chippy to leading hand before stepping into site supervision. Over his 14 years in the construction industry, he has developed a particular passion for bespoke residential and commercial building. Bryn takes great pride in seeing a build come to life from start to finish.

  • Graham McGannon

    Maintenance Management

    Known to everyone “Butch”, he has over 35 years in the building industry, and brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to his role as Maintenance Manager at MDC. A qualified carpenter since the late '80s, he has built a diverse career in both residential and commercial construction.

    Now leading maintenance operations, Butch oversees everything from Essential Safety Measures (ESM) checks to coordinating materials, trades, and scheduling works. Known for his positive attitude and strong organisational skills, he ensures every task is planned, resourced, and delivered on time — with no detail overlooked. Passionate about the building process and dedicated to supporting both clients and his team, Butch plays a vital role in upholding MDC’s high standards of excellence in project maintenance.

Skills & Expertise

All three MDC Building Group Directors are qualified and experienced carpenters, with highly developed project management and site supervision skills.

The team includes skilled project managers and site supervisors. They work closely together, as well as with our Directors and our carefully selected team of subcontractors. Our expert contract administrators and accounts and administration team are just as vital to our success as those who are on site.

We work together to win the project, manage it efficiently, and deliver a build that honours the original vision and design, with flawless construction and craftsmanship. Our work provides the touch of style and luxury you want to make your space unique and special.
